The "Taken" star has provided his narration to a new documentary that challenges the safety of immunizations and lauds ex- health official Robert F Kennedy Jr.
Called "Plague of Corruption," the documentary is inspired by a well-known publication written by a controversial scientist, who became famous during the global outbreak for allegations that the virus was a result of a problematic version of the seasonal immunization.
The publication's writing partner, Kent Heckenlively, has previously authored books with far-right media personality Alex Jones. Heckenlively wrote online celebrating Neeson's role in the film.
The team of Liam Neeson have issued a comment pushing back against suggestions that he subscribes to anti-immunization beliefs.
"We all acknowledge that corruption might be present within the drug industry, but that should never be conflated with being against vaccines," the comment explains. "Liam is not, and cannot be described as, against vaccines. His long work with Unicef underscores his long-held support for global immunisation initiatives."
It noted that the star was not involved in crafting the project's messaging and that inquiries about its claims ought to go to the filmmakers.
As presented, the script provided by Neeson makes several provocative statements:
It further cites a 2004 BBC documentary about HIV drug testing on children, which was afterwards the subject of a formal apology by the corporation for editorial breaches.
Recently, the political figure called on the CDC to revise its longstanding position that there is no connection between immunizations and autism. This claim is echoed in the film, despite a new report from the World Health Organisation reiterating no connection has been found.
Contrasting the film's message, Neeson has formerly expressed strong support for vaccines in his capacity as a charity ambassador.
Two years ago, he called vaccines as "an extraordinary human success story," noting that "The conversation about vaccines in the past few years has lost sight of how much benefit they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest collective achievements in our history."
The film finishes with Neeson's narration stating, "This is not the conclusion of our story. This is the beginning of a fresh chapter."
