Barry Manilow Will Have a Procedure for a Lung Cancer Diagnosis.

Barry Manilow has revealed that he was diagnosed with lung cancer and will undergo an operation.

Early-Stage Diagnosis

The octogenarian performer, famous for his series of high-spirited hits from "I Write the Songs" has made him one of pop music’s cherished entertainers, will have a procedure to extract a portion of his lung in an effort to combat the illness, which is in its early stages.

“For those who have been following, I recently suffered from six weeks of a severe cough followed by a return of another five weeks.

“Although I was over the bronchitis and performing again in Las Vegas, my excellent physician ordered an MRI just to make sure that there were no issues.

“The MRI detected a malignant lesion on my left lung that requires removed. It’s incredible chance (and a skilled doctor) that it was caught so early.”

Concert Delays

He has rescheduled a number of upcoming shows, but suggested he would be back on stage by mid-February for his enduring residency in Las Vegas.

He added: “The physicians do not believe it has metastasized and I’m taking tests to verify their assessment. So, that’s it. Chemo is not needed. No radiotherapy. Just home remedies and favorite shows.

“I’m looking forward to until I come back to my familiar venue at the Westgate Las Vegas for our February love-themed shows.”

Decades in the Spotlight

Manilow is now in the 16th year of a concert series at the Westgate Las Vegas. The singer has been in the public eye and publicly identified as gay in 2017, after tying the knot with his longtime partner and manager privately in 2014.

The duo were in a private romance for more than 35 years. Last year, Manilow reflected on how vital Kief had been to him during his rise to peak fame in the 1970s.

“When my fame skyrocketed, it was just overwhelming. And, you know, returning to an empty hotel room, you can find yourself in a lot of problems if you, you know, you’re on your own repeatedly,” he said.

“But I encountered my future husband right around when it was blowing up. And I was spared from having to go back to those lonesome rooms. I had a person to cry with or to share joys with.

“I desire that aspiring artists don’t have to go back to those suites by themselves, because you might succumb to pitfalls. I never did. But it was quite isolating until I met Garry. And then it was fun.”
