Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
