A man who spiked candy with sedative and gave them to minors at a summer program in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two boys aged between nine and ten.

The defendant was detained after eight youngsters and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the judicial center on Friday.

However, he denied one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was involving a young boy.

'Treat game'

Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, described Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She said his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer camp which he operated.

The man conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior said, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the children "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She explained the man had been able to explain this over a long period as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had worries in recently.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "Recently" his stepchild had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.

"They chose" to investigate in the man's possessions."

The prosecutor stated items including infant oil, Vaseline and syringes were located, and his stepchild notified the authorities about his suspicions.

She said Ruben proceeded to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the following morning.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that time," she added.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was examining law enforcement's management of the incident.

The legal representative stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson called the law enforcement again.

She explained the defendant then played the "sweet game" in a space of five children.
