Seamer Atkinson Compounds the English team's Fitness Worries.

'Significant concern' for England as Atkinson is forced off suffering a hamstring problem.

The English seamer added to the fitness woes of the England squad when he left the field during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson experienced discomfort in his left leg after the final ball of the fourth over at the MCG.

The England team stated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and was to take time on the sidelines in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".

The final Test in this Ashes battle at the SCG starts this coming Sunday.

England have been without strike bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and another paceman to a side strain during this series.

A replacement bowler was added to the party as injury reinforcement.

Atkinson struggled early in the series, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was omitted for the Adelaide match, then recalled for the Melbourne Test to fill the void.

Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman being one of only three English batsmen to reach double figures.

Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he came back for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, on the final ball of his spell, he delivered a change of pace to the batsman and suddenly grabbed his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test having missed the Adelaide game.
