The American champion Assured of Being 'in a good place' for the upcoming Winter Olympics

Lindsey Vonn in action

The veteran skier underwent a surgical implant placed in her right knee during her hiatus from the sport.

Legendary skier Lindsey Vonn asserts she will be "perfectly prepared" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, after earning a top-three finish for the fourth time in her last five World Cup events.

The veteran athlete, who recently made history by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her 142nd career World Cup podium finish.

Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere

Returning to the iconic venue for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot.

"I didn't quite have enough direction on the initial jump," the skier commented. "From that point on, I performed strongly. I'm happy with my run today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also finished third in the downhill on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Retirement

Vonn ended her career in early 2019 as a result of persistent injuries. However, she staged a competitive comeback in late 2024 after a partial knee replacement.

With 47 days remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's performances are highly promising.

She has one gold and two Olympic bronze medals in her collection and is strongly positioned to represent the United States at the next Olympics.

"In Cortina, I will be where I need to be," the athlete confirmed.

Chasing More Titles

In addition to her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has won over a career spanning 20 years.

She currently holds a 69-point lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This season's World Cup campaign features a nine more events taking place before the season finals in Kvitfjell, Norway on March 21st, 2026.
