Baroque Works is geared up to make a major impact in the next installment of Netflix’s show of One Piece, even if the real showdown won’t unfold until the next season, and a cherished, popular member has recently been selected.
Netflix announced Tuesday that the talented performer is now part of the One Piece upcoming season’s lineup and will portray Mr. 2. The role can use their power to change into an exact copy of anyone they’ve laid a hand on with their main hand. The actor, who is identifies as non-binary and prefers they/them pronouns, will portray a interpretation of that role re-envisioned as gender non-binary, instead of as a drag performer, in the live-action series, unlike the original manga and animated series.
Escola will work alongside multiple recently announced actors set to bring Baroque Works to reality, such as chief Mr. 0, brought to life by Joe Manganiello, a talented actress as Miss Goldenweek, and Sendhil Ramamurthy, who is also part of the cast as King Nefertari Cobra of Alabasta.
Even though Bon Clay is a key figure of Baroque Works, the character will be introduced in One Piece season 3. Considering the second season expected to adapt the Little Garden storyline, this marks a notable change in the timing of their first appearance, one that could indicate more adjustments to the story’s structure.
Escola’s blend of sharp comedic timing and profound feeling makes them a standout choice for the part. In addition to their latest vocal work in the youth-focused cartoon movie Boys Go to Jupiter, they received high praise and several accolades for creating and performing in the successful stage production Oh Mary!, highlighting the range they’ll contribute to one of One Piece’s most celebrated characters.
Netflix's live-action One Piece series is scheduled to come back for its second season on the tenth of March, 2026.
