George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros winning the championship in the 2017 season.
Canada's MLB team advanced to their initial championship series following 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the ALCS.
Down three runs to one, Springer delivered a three-run blast in the seventh inning, propelling the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a four games to three triumph in the seven-game series. Next up are the Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the forthcoming World Series.
"It's incredible for this squad, Toronto, the nation," commented Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
Springer has now slugged 23 total playoff homers, placing him third in history trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine another person in the world that I want up in that spot other than him with his post-season brilliance," noted manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the sole team yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Wilson commented "certainly that it's painful" following his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts in the campaign.
"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we ended up on the wrong side of this game," he added.
The Blue Jays won the title on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in game one on this Friday.
