US Armed Forces Executes Deadly Attack in Eastern Pacific, Leading to 4 Deaths

According to a senior defense spokesperson, the American armed forces executed a lethal kinetic engagement on a vessel in the eastern Pacific, killing four individuals.

“A US joint task force conducted a deadly attack on a craft linked to a terrorist group in open sea. Surveillance confirmed the vessel was transiting along a established drug smuggling route and was involved in illicit drug transport. A total of four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no US military forces were injured.”

Context and Recent Actions

This announcement follows a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the US president accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, vowing to escalate the military presence.

Only on Tuesday, the Pentagon stated it had carried out strikes on three boats it accused of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Since 2 September, over 20 strikes have killed at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Defends Tactics Amidst Pressure

The administration has encountered increasing pressure to release video of a September 2nd vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has defended its campaign as a success, arguing it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is stretching the limits of lawful warfare.

While the administration has said the campaign is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a senior aide appeared to suggest a broader political aim. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff remarked the leader “wants to keep on destroying vessels until Venezuela's president cries uncle.”

This indicates the series of strikes may be linked to a strategy to oust Venezuela's current government.
